how should i organize my book shelf?
well, i have a bookshelf and it's divided into three sections.
Books I have: mangas, novel, book series, school textbooks, other books, etc....
i really don't know how to organize them since every thing's like a different size, or like the manga series NEEDS to be together on the same shelf...
Please help!!!!!!!!!!! Please give me advices or tips or something!!!!!!!!!!!!
and also on one shelf i can fit two books in front of eachother.
if that makes sense..
it probably doesn't.........
First tip:
One initial step that's easy to forget is that you may want to clear out some books before you start organizing/categorizing your collection.
You mention that you can fit books in front of others, which I take to mean you are happy having some books hidden behind others out of the way. Which is great! Because it means you may be happy to live without some of them.
Second tip:
It may seem a bit ruthless, but perhaps its time to let a few books go (eg donate them to a local library, or give them to friends). Choose ones that you have no intention of reading again, or that you are only keeping because you think one day you might read it... school textbooks from prevous years are a good target because they are often updated, so if you do happen to need it in the future, unlikely as it may seem, you can get the latest one easily.
The advantage of a clean out is that with the extra room you free up, categorising will be a much easier process. Having a few shelves empty on only half filled is very pleasing to the eye (take a look at any Home Decor magazine for examples) and makes organizing much simpler.
Final tip:
One final tip for how you organize your remaining books. If you have tall book shelves, you may want to group often used books together at the most convenient shelf in the middle. Although it may break traditional categorizing rules, having your favorites close at hand is very efficient (as opposed to some up on the top shelf, others tucked away at the bottom, etc, just to fit in with a category). I have a desk near my bookcase, and keep my favorites and most used books in arms reach from the desk, even though they're from categories at the other end of the bookshelf. Just an idea.
